Lanesfield Craft Group
FRU has recently assisted a church group in Lanesfield in gaining funding to sustain and expand their craft group through a £3,200 ‘Awards for All’ grant. The Lanesfield Craft Group meets at Lanesfield Methodist Church in Laburnum Road every Tuesday afternoon. The group is subsidised by the Church but additional funding was sought to update and buy equipment, pay demonstrators to teach the group new skills and to buy storage cupboards.
Items made by the group range from tea cosy’s to carrier bag holders, aprons to painted glass, and peg bags, which prove very popular. These products are sold at Church events and Craft Fairs, and the proceeds are ploughed back into the enterprise to make more items and increase the range.
The group also make children’s clothes that are donated to the Neo-Natal Unit at New Cross Hospital and pantomime outfits for ‘KOSSMIC’ - a Wombourne based children’s activity group.
Approximately ten people attend the group sessions, both Church regulars and non-Church goers. Apart from actually learning new skills, the group’s activities also provide a social outlet for the members, some of whom are of advancing years. This social interaction provides help to keep the members fit and mentally active, thus assisting their general well being.
