Temple Gets a Lift from Council Grant
A Temple in Bilston has received a much needed boost through a grant from Wolverhampton City Council.
The Gurdwara Dera Baba Gobinddass Ji in Wellington Road, Bilston received almost £5,000 to spend on stair lifts to enable members with mobility problems to access the upstairs of the building where, as well as worship, they can attend activities and advice on such matters as Benefits & Pensions. The Grant was awarded as a result of an extensive survey which revealed that many local people would attend the Temple if they could get up the stairs more easily.
“The members are delighted with our new acquisition. It is important that our activities can be accessed by all — not just those fit and able to” said Chief Fundraiser Jagdev Bhatia. “This is just the first phase of the improvements necessary to make our Gurdwara a real asset to the people of Bilston and beyond. The Temple is already open every day for various activities where everyone is welcome, not just Sikh worshippers.
The grant was part of the Wolverhampton Small Grant Scheme 2006/7 and the application was assisted by Faith Regeneration Unit.
